Les Espagnols
This book, the Madrid-based photographer’s first publication in France, reveals his universe through a selection of black-and-white images taken between 1982 and 2014 in various cities across Spain (mainly Madrid, but also Barcelona, Benidorm, Murcia, Valencia and Zamora). The texts by novelist Andrés Barba and photographer Bernard Plossu, both close to Luis Baylón, each offer a sensitive testimony to the approach and singular gaze of their former companion.
By capturing the essence of the Spanish people, the work of Luis Baylón fits squarely within the lineage of the renowned Delpire collection, which includes The Americans by Robert Frank (1958), The Italians by Bruno Barbey (2022), and The English by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Martin Parr (2023).
