[…] Shoeshiners, waiters, prostitutes, bankers, housewives, business owners, students, the wealthy… People from every social class who share the same pleasure, and whom tobacco has managed to make equal as no political or social system has ever done throughout history. People who ask only for the respect that is demanded solely with words, without laws or coercive powers to protect them. For all these reasons, Baylón’s photographs are a hymn to freedom, to the right to choose and, consequently, to make mistakes. Smoking, like life, kills — and smokers are the only ones who have understood that despite that inconvenience, both it and life itself deserve to be enjoyed intensely and without fear. […]
